I am deeply apprehensive about this.

Maybe someone else has a more positive take.

I think it'll be fine. Nothing will ever be quite as fun and quotable as IAP, but I don't think anyone should be expecting that.

It'll only be really bad if they're too on the nose with it. I don't want to actually feel bad for Alan but I could see them going that way with it.

I liked it - was cringey uncomfortable in places and also very funny (the hand washing scene, Lynne calling the other presenter a hooker) in others.

The problem is that when you have things like the One Show, Richard Madeley, still ruling TV, Alan seems kind of normal. Nothing like as subversive as he was when AIP started.

That's what I was thinking too. Putting Alan next to modern TV just serves to highlight how fucking batshit our media is now. It's an old observation at this point, but most of the TV pitches he fired out in the cheese meeting all those years ago seem pretty tame now. The only reason we don't have monkey tennis is because it's probably be a bit bland compared to Geordie Shore.

It was patchy, very patchy. It's still far better than most comedy on the telly, though.

I haven't watched this week's episode yet, but apparently it's lost a third of the viewers from the opener.

Mildly amusing, but I didn't laugh out loud.

I'm much more enthused about the new series of Derry Girls - I think it's the funniest thing on telly right now.

I agree, although admittedly that's a very low bar these days. I'm not sure how much I like the show and how much of it is because I'd slip Michelle one... I'm assuming it's like The Inbetweeners where the actors are all closer to their thirties than their teens so it's perfectly alright if they give you a stonk on.

Clare > Orla > Jenny > Sister Michael > everyone else. Michelle is just rough as arseholes.

All the girls are about thirty, but it still seems like something that might see you end up quadrospazzed on a lifeglug.

Clare looks too much like a girl I went to school with, sans the terrible acne, to be attractive.

It's Michelle's roughness that makes her attractive. I bet you didn't like anyone from Two Pints.

The fake tan is a deal-breaker. I don't mind common, but I can't be doing with Oompa Loompas.

I will admit to preferring Donna over Janet.

Also I've just realised that Jenny is the image of a cousin I tried to cop off with at a wedding. Not my proudest hour.

Funnily enough she didn't have the fake tan in series 1. She's still a bit too rough for my liking though. The most bangable of the main group is easily Erin. However, the absolute hottest girl in the entire series is that Charlene who was in series 1 episode 2 (the French trip episode) right at the start, god knows why they didn't show her more often, she's fucking tasty
