After going back and forth doing fuck all worth anything, I finally applied to Uni after getting a bit of experience with my chosen subject. Had an interview and assessment on the 10th and now I just gotta wait. I feel like I fucked it up and I'm totally shitting it.

This was probably the best chance I've had to do something with my life and get out of the venemous hell hole that is my home before it eats me alive.

Nothing much else to say, really. Daren't tell friends because I don't want my likely failure to be known but had to tell someone.

Unless it's a super specialist subject that only a handful of unis do, even if you don't get into this one there are still dozens more unis to try again at.

Rehearse the interview. Think of all the absolutely terrible questions that you don't want to hear - write them all down and learn four or five answers off by heart that you can adapt to those kinds of questions.

Interviews are stressful, but they are quite straightforward if you prepare enough. Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse.

I was really set on this uni. So much so that I mentioned my reasons for choosing it briefly in my personal statement. I don't think I can change it before applying elsewhere.

Pretty stupid of me.

You can still take a punt on clearing if you don't get an offer. From what I've heard, applications are down this year, so there'll be a lot of places that universities will be desperate to fill, even on courses that are normally quite competitive.

I think the problem is it sounds like you've been indoctrinated by the mantra that still pervades from the New Labour days that you must go to university or you'll fail at life and you've managed to get so caught up in it that you're pinning your entire future on getting into one particular university.

If you don't get in then it's really not the end of the world. Even if you do then you're still going to have to adjust your mentality or you'll end up branding yourself a failure wrapped in crushing disappointment at some point after graduating the moment reality doesn't tally up with the unrealistic expectations you're feeding into.

If you get in then great, but don't centre your life on this and come up with a plan B. There's an awful lot of middle ground between not going to the uni you want to and being trapped in a venomous hell hole.

There's been falls in the number of people applying to Uni in recent years due to the increase in fees. As others have said, unless it's a very competitive course, they'll probably bite your arm off to have another £27+k.

Dunno how it compares to the usual but I was told there were around 1500 applicants for 90 places.

Thank you, bro. I know people were saying Uni isn't everything but I've been searching for my passion for years and finding a way out of my current situation. To find that and then be accepted to my dream uni is quite frankly, fucking unreal. Y
