Squash isn't a very aesthetically pleasing sport to me for reasons I can't quite articulate. Something about knocking the ball as close as posdible to the corner of a perspex box makes me feel the same way I do when I'm reaching for something that's dropped between the chair and my table. I don't get this feeling with tennis.

Also, talk about the Commonwealth Games here, if you're not already sick of themed.

I don't understand this shit sport. I'm watching a couple of bints playing it right now, and all I see is them hitting the ball against a glass wall, and sometimes blocking each others' paths. What the fuck is this? Why can't they stay in their own corners?

Because you're meant to squash them out.

Any squash lads here? From this thread, it doesn't seem like a worthwhile sport, but all my mates keep going on about it.

It looks physically intense, which is what I want. Any other recommendations?

Squash is fun but not for the faint hearted. It's very punishing on the health due to all the irregular jumping around and whatnot, good fun but you have to pace yourself or you're on a first class service to snap city.

Picked it up about 2 years ago, of all the racket sports I've played (tennis, table tennis, badminton), it's the funnest. Managed to make my way onto the Uni team this year.

It can be quite intense, but it all depends on your skill level. If you're playing against a beginner you can make them do all the running by placing the ball correctly. Two evenly matched people would do a similar amount of running as eachother.

It's exceedingly dull to watch, but quite demanding to play and a really fun way to work up a sweat. It's competitive, mind, and when playing it for fun it's self-judged so you need to be, literally, a good sport so both you and your opponent can have fun. If you're okay with playing 1-vs-1 games where there's no team to blame, then squash is a good and fairly accessible place to start.

I'm waiting for the stare-out contest. Without those pesky Eastern Europeans we should have a decent chance of taking home some medals.
