Elon Musk: pedo guy insult was 'not classy' but not meant literally

...Musk’s primary defense, which he reiterated numerous times, was that he did not intend to call Unsworth a pedophile, but instead was using “pedo guy” to mean “creepy old guy”.

“Just as I thought it was obvious that he did not mean to physically sodomize me with a submarine, I thought it was obvious that I didn’t mean he was a pedophile,” Musk said. He argued that he did not retract his statement when he initially apologized to Unsworth because that “would have been worse”. “If you call someone a motherf’er, I think it would actually seem sarcastic to say, ‘I didn’t mean that he committed incest’,” Musk explained. “That would have seemed disingenuous.”

Musk won. The jury decided that calling someone is a paedo is just a playground insult and not an actual allegation of paedophilia.

This line gave me a giggle.

>Use of the N-word is highly contentious. Although widely used within the black community, especially rap and hip-hop culture, it is also considered unacceptable to be used by white people.

From the few paragraphs I was able to read without being a subscriber it looks like he went through the owner's personal stuff and found offensive words. Sturridge is a money chaser, he recently got a global ban from professional football, which was reduced to 4 months, for telling a family member to bet on his transfer move. The deal with his new club (not the one he put money on) fell through and he's unlikely to see high level play again given his age, record as a better but lazier Balotelli and inability to follow the rules such as "no insider gambling." This is his last payout. He probably found the account marked "nigger" much earlier and didn't care until he needed a payout.

Was the landlord wrong to have an account marked nigger? No, it's his private stuff.

Legally speaking, maybe it can be argued whether it was private but if you leave something in a house I'm renting - temporarily, it's my house - you best believe I'm eventually gonna rifle through it. Seriously rookie move from the landlord regardless of how much of a cunt this footballer might me.

I absolutely agree, I was talking from a moral perspective rather than a legal one. The law can be silly sometimes, but absolutely dead on other times. I don't know enough about privacy laws to say in this case.

I know it's not analogous but if I dropped a locked diary on a bus, a stranger found it and cut it open to find my ramblings of "nigger nigger nigger" would it be prosecutable?

You'd probably be wanted for questioning by your local plod, but as I understand it they'd have to make a case that you intended it to be "displayed, published, or distributed".

I suppose it comes down to the societal ruling on whether interacting with an (accidentally) unlocked social media account is the same as hacking open a physical private space then. This will be an interesting ruling. Unless they use "other evidence" to resolve the case.

Perhaps connotations associated with words come from the actions of the people, objects or actions the word describes. If a word has negative connotations it is because it describes a group we perceive as negative and over time our associations with the group become associated with the word, you fucking Brit.

It really isn't though. No seat at the UN or other significant intergovernmental bodies, no military or defence autonomy, no representation in international sport except those where the British are historically privileged. The list goes on, but I'm sure you're uninterested in dispelling the charade we play in Britain to appease those living in bygone centuries.

M8 it's got a football team and is recognised by the ISO. If you're denying Scotland's status then I've got some mates from San Marino that'll be right pissed off at you.
