Ey up lads. Can you successfully grow chillies using seeds from store bought peppers? Would you need to dry them first or is planting freshly plucked seeds fine?

The short answer is yes.

The long answer is yes some might work well, but due to possible cross-pollination/hybrid strains etc. the plant you grow will probably be less healthy and less productive than a new plant.

Just buy a pack of seeds, you can't go wrong.

I'm doing this right now.

I went to Wahaca a few months a go and you're given chilli seeds in the form of something that looks like a matchbook at the end of your meal. It simply says to bury them up to the mark on the "stick", about 5mm, into moist soil that has been watered 30 minutes prior.

I don't think germination is the issue, it's more of replanting it and making sure the bigger plant doesn't die, and perhaps might bear some chilli.
