So, lets shift focus a bit. We have a Discord now, so we have a place to organise playing games with each other as well as shitpost.

https://discord.gg/QGCyRdV This is permanent invite link, so you can come and go as you please with no hassle.

From what I can tell from /g/, it's basically just IRC but the mods clearly have their heads buried in the sand and are being wilfully blind to the insidious creep of Big Discord.

Pretty much. It collates your games across all the launchers and lets you launch them from there, as well as letting you voice chat with each other in game and shitpost outwith it.

There's a contingent (read: probably one person) that's convinced that the IRC or anything relating to it was a hive of drama and plotting against the good users of the imageboard. This continued even whilst the IRC consisted of about five people that didn't speak.

God that takes me back.

I remember people posting angrily about the IRC as if it was 'us vs them', or the 'clique', despite it being an entirely open channel, obviously.

I lurked in there for a while but I don't think I counted as being in the clique. I've still never met any of you weirdos.

It would be nice to believe that but I've been on here when IRC drama has spilled on to the boards. That isn't to say I think it is a constant gossip fest but I've watched it happen. The party line seems to be to delete as soon as it appears (which is probably for the best) I can't remember when exactly was the last time I saw some but I think it might have been randomly at 4am on a weekday in the last year.

There is definitely a bias in the only time irc is mentioned it is for drama purposes.

The last time IRC had any drama was a lad called Gollum who turned out to be a paedo and that wasn't even mentioned here. That was about 4 years ago now.

There hs never been an IRC clique, just people (person?) who wanted to create the impression that there was.

Server is doing well so far regardless, in the double digits now, so lets just say if IRC ever was insular and unwelcoming this wont be.

The only time I recall IRC getting brought up on here was people moaning that the 'clique' were responsible for suggesting a lot of the boards that never get posted used, but I don't pay much attention. I think the only new board we'd feasibly ever need would be if we allowed webms here.

The use of sage here goes well beyond that, particularly with the advent of /*/, which negates its original function entirely, and is deeply rooted in the britfa.gs traditions of both being a grumpy old cunt and sometimes not believing your own post to be worthy of attention. A lot of people just use it while complaining.

That's the reason the box often says things like 'spoilt ballot' or 'moan'

Aww, the britfags server, one of the few times I played multiplayer for an extended amount of time. Now I'm wishing I had the spare time to waste hours on Minecraft.

Also coincidental that just when I revisit britfags.gs to see if there's a current server, I'm greeted by an image of the statue I made of myself. Though I don't remember putting a big knob on it.

If you have an old enough account, it'll be a username you need to log in with, rather than an email. That was my issue trying to get back into it a few years back. But obviously if you can't find anything by searching your emails then I'm not sure what else to do, other than buy the game again, but I can't imagine anyone actually buying Minecraft in 2019.

Good answer, just to check will you be backing up the server at all and if how regularly? When a dick head strikes, permbanning might stop the problem contiuning, but won't repair the damage, I'm a bit on edge as a friends private server somehow got griefed and they ruined everything.

It'll be backed up at least twice daily and at most hourly, depending on how many people actually end up using it. I remember running a great 'undo' plugin back in the day that would basically reverse any griefer damage, though I suppose land claiming or faction stuff is easier/better if we really want to go that route.

Either way I'd not worry. I don't remember any proper griefing on the old server, and that was back in the dark, wild days of this site when we still allowed foreigners and that.

I'm also open to running a heavily modded server, Sky Factory always looked fun to me but open to suggestions. Maybe I'm being too optimistic about getting it as big as the last one was, we'll see. Feel free to invite all your weird friends, I left the 'fag' out of the address for that reason.
