Travis Meeks just finished successfuly raising $6000 to buy back the gear he sold for crack.

Could this be grunge's greatest redemption story or is he scamming people for drug money? It really is a shame that the 'tism and drug abuse did him in. Days of the New had some brilliant songs.

I can't say much more for Bengas Chapter II - the most I've heard will be listenable after familiarity, unlike Diary of an Afro Warrior which carried itself throughout - but this one track is insane.

>..Vroom vroom vroomin on the A-13..
>..New beamer, mum's house, chandeliers in council flats..
>..too much dancefloor, not enough skanks..

I'd like to say more about anti-posturing at whatnot but I can't make it convincing.

12736 music appreciation
When you discover great new music that you really enjoy, do you listen to it constantly or do you try to listen to it sparingly over a long period so you don't grow tired of it?

I never gave much thought to music listening strategies, but around this time last year I discovered Khruangbin and I spent so much time listening to them from March to September that I kind of immunised my brain from enjoying the music. I'm thinking I should change my ways and spread out my listening so I can savour music for longer; maybe listen to a new album with each new day of the week instead of listening to the same album every day.

On a somewhat related note, how do people enjoy streaming services? I tried spotify but I found myself getting really annoyed at how many crap tracks I had to skip. Is this normal or should I learn to be more open and less finicky when it comes to music?

I heard about Yma Sumac recently. She was a Peruvian opera singer with an amazing vocal range, so I looked up her singing on YouTube, and I found this which is pretty much the maddest shit I have ever heard.

Failing that, I like Laurie Anderson, but you might well know all about Laurie Anderson if you listen to mental shit exclusively.

13014 Ancient Greek and Roman themed
I'm looking for music influenced by ancient Greek and Roman themes. I like the more subtle pieces and background music, but most things I've found floating around on YouTube become a bit too "cinematic" or have very hammy crescendos and sound effects.

The following are quite nice:

I did listen to a bit of this. Then thought it reminded me of the Talos Principle sound track. And then I thought I should replay it. But then I saw I had bought the VR version which I've never played. Then I thought I should set up my VR for the first time in a year or so. But I haven't yet.

I'm intrigued by the Spielberg remake, because of the visuals. But I seriously doubt anything can match the energy of this. I'm not really a musical person, but West Side Story is the absolute best, and America is the best song. I actually sing it to myself every time I visit there.

I hate musicals, but I found out that two of the old guys from Twin Peaks were in West Side Story together, and that struck me as so utterly ludicrous that I watched it purely to see them in it. I'm a big fan of Twin Peaks; the thrill might not be the same if you are not.

Yeah, heavily considered it. My dad's got a list of all the books he's read and some review notes on each, which is pretty daunting considering he has more library space than I have walls.

You should deffo have a spreadsheet of basic life stuff, like previous addresses/dates, and potentially a budget and maybe stock responses to interview questions, but yeah an itinerary is the next step.

If a band is playing a Saturday and Sunday in the same town, which is the better night to see them? I would assume Sunday because the band has had a chance to dial in their sound for the venue, but maybe they'd be more high energy on a Saturday.

Depends more on the genre and crowd if you ask me, there's two sides to a performance. On Sunday they'd be less people and those that aren't there don't give a fuck about their job so it would be more intimate but you might not want to mosh with pensioners.

I don't think it's worth worrying about if it's only two nights, it could go either way really.

When I was still an active musician, I did a handful of short tours, and the gigs would be noticeably at their best towards the middle. First night or two was always shaky, but you'd get into your stride after that. Then of course by the tail end the cumulative effects of drinking, sleeping in a van and not having a shower all week would start to catch up with you.

Really couldn't be arsed with all that lark nowadays.

The best Disney soundtrack is The Lion King 2. Perversely, disgracefully underrated. It's one of the great injustices of the modern age.

I thought it would be nice to have a collection of our music for anyone needing cheering up. What do you lads suggest? Any reason why?

Across the Universe is my helpful reminder that whatever is bothering me doesn't really matter and I shouldn't let it. The song has actually helped me deliver projects before just by putting me into the right frame of mind for it and was a companion during a time when nothing was going right for me. The film is also a favourite with a similar message about life.

On February 12, 1983 the ship Marine Electric was carrying a load of coal from Norfolk, Virginia to a power station in Somerset, Massachusetts. The worst storm in forty years blew up that night and the ship sank at about four o'clock in the morning on February 13. The ship's chief mate, 59-year-old Robert M. "Bob" Cusick, was trapped under the deckhouse as the ship went down. His snorkeling experience helped him avoid panic and swim to the surface, but he had to spend the night alone, up to his neck in water, clinging to a partially deflated lifeboat, and in water barely above freezing and air much colder. Huge waves washed over him, and each time he was not sure that he would ever reach the surface again to breathe. Battling hypothermia, he was tempted to allow himself to fall unconscious and let go of the lifeboat. Just then he remembered the concluding stanzas of "The Mary Ellen Carter".

He started to sing it and soon was alternately shouting out "Rise again, rise again" and holding his breath as the waves washed over him. At seven o'clock that morning a Coast Guard helicopter spotted him and pulled him to safety. Only three men of the thirty-three who had been aboard survived the wreck. After his ordeal, Cusick wrote a letter to Stan Rogers telling him what had happened and how the song helped save his life. In response, Cusick was invited to attend what turned out to be the second-to-last concert Rogers ever performed. Cusick told his story in the documentary about Rogers, One Warm Line.
