433219 Last thread of the year lads
What you doing tonight? How are you seeing in the New Year?

I'm doing the sensible thing; staying in, getting drunk and shitposting - like every year.

Also, may I be the first to wish you both a Happy New Year.

Trying to get a very complicated ML model to output something fucking useful. I have to showcase it at work in a few days and I'm bricking it.

I haven't had time yet to make friends in this city so I'll be spending it alone at my pc. Might call a few people though, I'm not that sad.

Still can't get over the fact that soon the 20's won't mean the Roaring Twenties. I wonder what this decade will be.

Just sort of idly looking at mushroom spawn on ebay and other sites. I got half a sack of wood chips for Christmas to use as a substrate so I'm looking forward to doing that.

I've wanted to do that for absolutely ages - have been keeping a few hardwood logs to inject with the stuff. Definitely going to try this year in the garden!

I inoculated some logs earlier this year and while they haven't fruited yet, they had some definite white mycelium on them. They take at least six months to get going so try to get them going before March if you can.

A variety of widths, mostly about a foot long. I don't know what they were as I just asked on freecycle if anyone had any logs and a bloke dropped off a ton bag of them. Looks like a mixture.
I have two that I bought pre-inoculated from some website, they're both about three feet.

Every single year social pressure has made me feel like I have to do something. I pay over the odds to feel tired and hungover the next day.

This is the first year I've treated myself to some snacks, a takeaway and am gonna pass out and go for a run in the morning after having a good sleep, starting the year properly.

NYE is the absolute worst of all the organised fun. It's always a terrible night out, usually involving at least one of a) getting ripped off b) having an argument with someone and c) paying a ridiculous amount to get into a shitty bar for the evening.

You've done the right thing lad.

Staying in like a saddo. Could've probably reached out to a few people to see if anything's going on, but most people I know have kids now so I can't imagine they're doing anything exciting.

Staying in and not feeling guilty at all. It's always a shit night getting ripped off and getting stranded in whatever shithole you end up, because every fucker on the planet is trying to get a taxi at the same time.

I'm eating the last of the Christmas snacks, finishing off the last port, playing Borderlands with the missus, and then getting up to go to work in the morning. Can't argue with pay enhancement for a normal, if not slightly quieter than usual, day's work.

Like the other lad said, NYE is one of the worst nights to be out. It's like Mad Friday; forced fun and amateur drinkers everywhere.

At midnight I intend to be tucked up in bed reading Flashman.

I'll be curled up with the hound on the sofa, watching shite on telly.
Poor boy's depressed as he's bust his wrist and isn't allowed to run - and he fucking loves to run. Took him to the vets today, he thought he was going to daycare, as it's on the way there and Tuesday is a daycare day. Poor bugger. A week of metacam and short walks on the lead. That's no way to start a new year.

Gonna treat myself to a Chinese, probably a Kung Pao but maybe I'll try something new.
Might start watching 'the Witcher' as I've heard it's supposed to be decent and I've just finished 'You' so need something new.

Stopped going out years ago, stopped drinking even. Don't really miss it but start feeling a little more lonely around this time of year. Oh well.

Staying in with an additional excuse that I have manflu. I'll probably ring in the new year watching anime as a tradition that began in 2009, The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl looks interesting.

If that isn't exciting enough I'm finally going to finally start Babylon 5 for 2020.

Just popped out for my first cig of the decade and as soon as the clock struck 12 I saw a girl having a tantrum to her friends. She apparently doesn't care that it's new year.

Happy New Year to both of you. May Britfa live to see 2030.

Just got home from a party, now watching The Inbetweeners on TV. With signing for the deaf. It's always a bit annoying to have a person fidgeting with their hands in the bottom right corner of the screen, even if you eventually forget he's there. But I guess deaf people need laughs too.

lolno. I get a quick chat when she drops him back - sometimes about how he's maimed himself, but 99% of the time it's "he's lovely, plays hard, sleeps hard". He stays over if we need to park him - loves it there.

I think I went to bed at about 11. As others have said, it's not a good night for going out.

Everyone on facebook is making big long posts about the last ten years and how they're all so happy. Seems a bit forced but it's probably not, I'm probably just being cynical. I won't make a post like that, so I'll do it here.

I'm feeling unexpectedly positive about the year ahead, despite recently becoming single again, which wasn't nearly as upsetting as I assumed it would be. If anything I feel more free to spend time doing things I've been wanting to do for a while. Might finally dip my toe into getting my PPL, will certainly be working more on cars, and I'll probably claw my way up the ladder at work too, though working is also no longer the desperate priority it has been for me for the last decade.

It's an odd feeling. Not contentment, more just acceptance that whatever happens, I can deal with it, and the quiet realisation that my life has been pretty fucking unpleasant for a few years, without me ever really noticing it until I changed some things.

Anyway, I sincerely hope you lot get something good out of the coming months too. Nothing, and I really mean nothing, has been a constant in my life more than this weird fucking website, and if you're reading this, you're part of that, and probably part of the reason I'm not dead. So cheers everyone.

It is though.

On facebook, everything always tends to be. And on most other forms of social media. There are studies now that watching other people present their lives on social media can make you feel depressed about the seeming insignificance of your own life.

One reason why I've never fully warmed up to social media as a whole.

You hit the nail on the head. I do feel quite sad that things have been so quite unpleasant for so long, but at the same time registering that it's over is giving me a good optimism. You're right about the permanence of this board too, cheers .gs!
